The opening contest in the Legacy Classic was all Morgan State. The Bears began slow, falling behind by 10-2, but began to get back on track and tie the game at the 12-minute mark. Morgan State then used four three-pointers and nearly perfect free shot shooting to win and take a 42-34 lead at the half.
The second period was more of the Bears, and they never let the Hornets play the game. Kamron Hobbs and Lewis Djonkam led the Morgan State scoring attack with 18 and 24 points and 18 points, respectively. Djonkam also added nine rebounds to take home the MVP award from the game with an 85-65 win.
Norfolk State defeated Hampton 83-71 in the second half after a strong performance.
Hampton was ahead by 36-35 at the half, and the game was back and forth until 11 minutes into the second period. After that, Norfolk State went on a 13-0 run over approximately two minutes. The scoring flurry was just too for the Pirates to take on, and the Spartans were in control in securing victory.
Joe Bryant earned the game’s MVP accolades following his impressive 29-point game. The win saw the Spartans win the season series with 757 points against their opponent.
