It is cold in the morning. I make myself a warm cup of coffee and prepare for the day ahead. As I am gliding in the shower, the thought of what to do with those unruly towels takes over. Out of the blue, a roll of flaky towel lands on my foot. I ignore it and move on with my morning routine.
When I get out of the shower and into the bathroom, the towel remains where it landed. It sits on the floor in plain view. Embarrassed, I try to ignore it. But it doesn’t go away. In fact, it seems to grow more irritated with each passing minute.
It has now become a weapon against my frustration. Each time I brush my teeth, I use the rolled towel to push the crumpled paper back into position. It has become a form of punishment for me. Each morning when I rise, I allow the towel to hang on the bathroom counter by its end. It takes several minutes before I am able to tuck the towel into the washer basket.
The ordeal is repeated each night before I go to bed. I simply am not prepared to face another day like that. I find myself picking up the towels and placing them into the washing machine. Then I have to wash them by hand in order to be ready for the next day.
