The following day, NJPW announced that they have released White from their contract effective immediately.
White’s departure comes as a surprise after he had been consider one of the top stars in NJPW. A two-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion and former WWE NXT Champion, White has put on some of the best matches in NJPW over the last few years. His matches against Kenny Omega and SANADA were particularly memorable.
White’s decision to leave may be based on a desire for more creative freedom, as he has previously stated that. He does not enjoy working under a network television schedule.
