The US is a top contributor to Coastal Plastic Pollution Crisis. Ocean plastics and micro-fabricated packaging are entering the water and contaminate the groundwater. They can also be found on land, in the air, and in the soil. We need to stop this.
There are so many plastic bottles being tossed every day. Most of these are from food packaging. This isn’t helping to reduce the problem of plastic pollution. Companies have become aware that if they continue to use plastic bottles, they are contributing to plastic pollution and environmental harm.
Companies like Coke and Pepsi are bottling everything. If they use recycled glass, it cuts down on the use of plastic. They are making efforts to go green. All of these efforts are wonderful.
But, all of this is just a part of the problem. We also need to look at the big picture. Global Warming is one of the biggest threats to our planet. This is even worse in the US. People are warming their homes with this harmful gas called carbon dioxide. It’s almost as if we are burning our own bodies.
When we are causing ocean acidification, we are also contributing to the death of everything living in the water. As the levels rise, fish and corals can die off. That’s a horrible problem when you think about the thousands of species that live in the ocean.
So, what can we do to stop this? One of the things that can be done is to limit the number of plastic bottles that are being produced. Until this is done, it will continue to be a top contributor to pollution. Cutting down on production will also help in stopping the pollution caused by those plastic bottles. That’s a great start, although there is so much more to be done.
Something else that we can all do to stop the pollution is to use re-use and recycle whenever possible. It’s a tough world out there. We have to make the best use of what we have. Reusing and recycling help in making sure that we do not contribute to the plastic pollution problem. That alone should be enough to help.
A big part of doing this is to think about where things like food come from. Do you know where your foods come from? If you don’t know, you should start. It doesn’t matter if you’re buying locally or across the country. Plastic packaging used to be all the rage, but now it’s just another thing that is harmful to the environment. Start thinking about your purchases where food is concerned.
Another thing that you can do is recycle whenever you can. There is an emerging trend that encourages people to reuse plastic. If you are a smart consumer, you’ll take this route instead of throwing plastics in the trash. This saves money and the environment. Some recycling stations are actually installing machines that can turn your ordinary soda bottle into two plastic bottles, one with soda and the other with cleaning products for your house or office.
One thing that you can do at home is to buy glass and use it to create a window on your balcony. This way you can let fresh air in during the summer and block out noise from the road. This is also a good idea for keeping bugs out. We’re not talking about a big bug bite here. A few mosquito bites every time you leave your house is more than most people will tolerate.
Ocean debris can also be contributed to global warming. Ocean dumping of plastics goes on every day in many countries all over the world. If we continue to dump toxic materials into our ocean we will have severe consequences. One thing that has already been done is reducing the amount of garbage that goes into our ocean.
One thing that you can do to contribute to reducing plastic pollution is to recycle. Just think how big the country is and all the plastic that is produced. It would take a huge effort just to recycle it all. This is why everyone needs to become involved in recycling.
We are a great world with lots of natural resources and beauty. The least that we can do is to take care of our earth. When plastic finds its way into the ocean we have already contributed to the problem. Now it is time to do something about it and make sure that we do not see more of these plastic bottles in our ocean.
