Martha Stewart has etched her name in the annals of history as one of the cover models for the 2023 edition of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. At the age of 81, she has become the most senior figure to grace the magazine’s cover to date. Among the four captivating covers, the 81-year-old radiated grace, flashing a smile that concealed the fact that she donned nine distinct swimsuits during the extensive eight-hour photo session. “When we promised an extraordinary year, we truly meant it,” proclaimed Sports Illustrated on their official Twitter account. Sharing the image of her cover, the octogenarian tweeted, “Thrilled to be gracing the cover of the @SI_Swimsuit issue! May this cover ignite a flame of inspiration within you, compelling you to explore uncharted territories. Get your copy from newsstands on May 18th!”
Reflecting on this remarkable achievement, the iconic lifestyle maven expressed. “Upon learning that I would featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, I thought to myself. ‘Well, that’s rather remarkable. I believe I’ll be the oldest individual ever to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated.’ Age rarely occupies my thoughts. But I recognized the historical significance of this moment.”
In addition, she divulged that the cover was shot in the Dominican Republic and shared her commitment to attending pilates sessions thrice a week in preparation for the shoot. During an interview with The New York Times, she recounted, “They were all buzzing around me, making comments about ‘the girls.’ I have never referred to my breasts in such a manner. I detest such language… Yet, I needed to ensure that I was ready to strike a pose in a swimsuit. It demanded a touch of vanity and a measure of confidence. I pondered, ‘If I feel sufficiently strong physically and mentally to undertake such a feat, I am more than willing to embrace it.'” She further remarked, “Typically, my motivation stems from financial incentives. However, this time, my motivation was root in the desire to demonstrate that a woman of my age can exude beauty, vitality, and goodness.”
Martha Stewart rose to prominence in the 1980s with her acclaimed line of cookbooks. Since then, she has penned over 99 books. While also venturing into the realms of magazines, restaurants, podcasts, and television programs.
